Marking both IAPMO's centenary and our 10th year, IWSH is bringing skilled plumbers and quality products to one of L.A.’s most essential community organizations.

Transforming Lives Through Plumbing

IWSH_LA-CPC_1

Every day, the Los Angeles Mission serves more than 1,000 people, providing showers, meals, restrooms, and access to clean water for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

But aging plumbing systems with frequent leaks, drainage backups, and inefficient fixtures are putting those critical services at risk.

IWSH, the public charity of IAPMO, is mobilizing skilled volunteer plumbers for an IWSH Community Plumbing Challenge® to address critical repairs, upgrade the Mission's aging toilets, sinks, and showers, and improve system performance throughout the main building. Every upgrade will prioritize water efficiency, code compliance, and long-term durability.

Why This Project Matters

The Los Angeles Mission is exactly the kind of community organization where functioning plumbing infrastructure has an outsized impact on its ability to provide needed services. When plumbing fails:

  • Meal service stops
  • Showers go offline
  • Vulnerable people suffer

By combining industry expertise with quality products, IWSH will help the Los Angeles Mission reduce operational costs, enhance health and sanitation conditions and support services, and provide individuals with a safer and healthier environment.

This is the power of plumbing: creating life-changing infrastructure that enables community organizations to focus on their mission.

A Milestone Year for IWSH and IAPMO

In 2026, IWSH marks its 10th anniversary alongside IAPMO’s 100th year — fittingly, in the city of Los Angeles, where IAPMO was founded. This Community Plumbing Challenge reflects a decade of IWSH mobilizing the plumbing industry for good and a century of IAPMO expertise shaping a safer built environment.

Since 2016, IWSH Community Plumbing Challenge projects have followed a proven success equation: skilled plumbers + quality products + community education = scalable impact. From health care facilities in the Philippines to septic installations on the Navajo Nation, each project serves as a replicable blueprint demonstrating the plumbing industry's vital role in advancing public health.

The Los Angeles Mission project brings that model home to Southern California.
